About Mark Foster Tree Surgery

tree surgeon at work

Mark Foster Tree Surgery was established in 2011. Mark worked at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh as a Senior Arboriculturist for a number of years looking after the existing specimen tree collection whilst planting over 600 new trees for future generations. Mark also worked at The Hidden Gardens and has since returned as the contract arboriculturist.

Mark is very passionate about trees and all the associated natural relationships that can develop within tree canopies. Mark takes a holistic approach to trees, taking into consideration all parts and functions to assess the best approach.

Mark holds NPTC (City and Guilds); LANTRA and IPAF certificates for all tree climbing, rigging, chainsaw work and MEWP access. Mark has a Diploma Arboriculture, the Royal Forestry Society Certificate Arboriculture and is qualified as a Tree Inspector and Surveyor.

Our Health and Safety at Work (1974) policy uses Job Specific Risk Assessments, Working at Height Regulations (2005), Lowering Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (1998) and Provision of Work Equipment Regulations to ensure best industry practice. All members of staff hold NPTC qualifications and we all have full First Aid Certificates.

Mark Foster Tree Surgery hold Public Liability Insurance for up to £5million and Employers Liability to £10million.

All our work is carried out to:
British Standard 3998:2010 (Tree Work Recommendations) and
British Standard 5837:2012 (Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction)
We also use the ‘Research for Amenity Trees’ book series as an essential reference when assessing trees and deciding on best approach.

Mark Foster has close links with the Scottish arborist community and regularly attends seminars organised by the Arboricultural Association Scottish Branch keeping absolutely up to date with industry best practice.
